city water hookup in campground

While on a camping trip this week we encountered a situation and wish to know how to handle this.
At the one campground for overnight, we pulled in and found that they only had one fresh water spigot for 2 sites. There was one camper already parked next to our space and had already hooked his water line to this spigot, which did not allow me to use the my water line.
I felt he should have used a (Y) on the spigot which would have allowed 2 campers to use the same spigot.
I knocked on his door and they were not home.
Needless to say I had no water for the night.
I know now I should fill my fresh water tank to eliminate this problem.
How would you have handle this situation?

    Absolutely. Not your place to punish the people already there because the campground did not have adequate facilities. We always carried a "Y" but if you didn't have one doing to above would have worked fine.
    :h How is it "punishing" the people already there by installing a Y so that you both had water?:h

    Fill yours, put away your hose, reconnect his and move on. No need to go without water when they are not even there.

    Absolutely. Not your place to punish the people already there because the campground did not have adequate facilities. We always carried a "Y" but if you didn't have one doing to above would have worked fine.

    Yes, we always traveled with at least a half tank of water so we could stop wherever we wanted and not have to worry about hookups.

    You gambled and hoped that the water supply would be decent. I know my supply from home is good no risk/wonder involved


    We don't gamble. :) We use suitable filters.

    if you paid for site with water then this is what i would have done. doubt neighbor camper would have problem with it. if they did they could get over it.

    From My Point of View:

    Casinojunkie left an very important piece of information.
    Did he sign up for a slip with water or no?
    If yes, then the campground owed him water. They should provide same, either by having a dedicated tap or supplying a Wye.

    As it happens, we carry a wye as part of the coaches kit. This is because our chapter that is full of smaller coaches often negotiates better prices by using a single slip for a pair of coaches. While the chapter does have Wyes, this way I don't have to chase one down.
