Campground Near Naval Base Coronada

Question

Want to go see my son who will be at Coronado, Ca in June.   Any ideas of a good campground within driving distance.  We will be in a 38 foot fifth wheel and have a dog with us.  Don't  mind a 30 minute drive or so.  Would like something scenic and safe.  Never been to this area at all and just learned he will be there, seems a little late for the season. Thanks for any info.

If your son is going to be on base, Fiddler's Cove is a Navy campground ON BASE!  Have him check to see about a site, but he will probably have to meet you when you arrive to escort you onto base.  My niece is a Marine and we have taken our camper several times and stayed on base with her.  It's usually cheaper than your normal campground and are usually pretty nice.

Have him get you into Fiddlers Cove MWR (Military campground)

Fiddler's Cove is not on base but is a military only campground on Silver Strand south of the amphib base. If you can't get in there, my favorite is Chula Vista RV. Pricey but worth it. Another is the KOA slightlt inland.

We stay at Mission Bay RV resort. It's not a resort in my opinion but it is a good price and a good location. You will probably have a hard time getting into any place close this late in the year. I hate it, but it is true.
