An hour drive from L.A. you can forget about Oceanside, Mission Bay, and Chula Vista, many hours away. Same with Anaheim and Newport, that's going to be a couple of hours to get to Universal. You need to find something within L.A. County, like 30 or so miles from Universal, traffic is horrendous.
Try goodsamclub.com and find a park that way. There really isn't much in the area close by to Universal. I saw one in Walnut.
