  • I lived in Pittsburgh for 15 years and I had to goggle where the "Forbes Substation" is to see it is downtown near the country jail.

Pittsburgh is a tough area to camp in and commute to the city. There are a very limited number of campgrounds in the metro area and then traffic is always bad getting downtown. If he is working non-traditional work hours, the drive will be easier.

Raccoon State Park or the KOA are the best alternatives. I would get their addresses and then map the drive time. The state park doesn't have sewers.

Lots of good ethnic food in the 'Burg.
  • Is that the Madison/Pittsburgh KOAnormthe Washington/Pittsburgh KOA? How long was the commute to Pittsburgh?
  • We stayed at the Pittsburgh KOA south of the city twice last year and were very satisfied.

Happy camping!! See y'all down the road!!!:)
  • This might be too far for you, but we spent almost 2 weeks at Raccoon Creek State Park which is NorthWest of Pittsburgh. It worked well for us. Nice large level spot, good facilities, shopping nearby, and quite peaceful. It was a bit of a drive every day to go into Pittsburgh, but nothing really onerous. Could not argue about the cost either!
