Campgrounds near NJ

Will be getting our first rv soon (class c) and wanted to take it on our first trip close to home. We live in northern NJ (near NYC) and would like to find a nice campground, preferably a state park for our first night in the unit.

Anybody suggestions, I would like to have full hookup so I can test all of the systems in the rv.
  • Mahlon Dickerson is near I80 and hwy 15

It might be close to you.
  • Go west. Pa has some nice state parks, most have electric hookups. One, Promised Land's Pickeral Point Campground has a loop with full hookups and brand new bath houses. It's not far from Jersey. Take I-80 west. We also enjoy Locust Lake and Pine Grove Furnace. Both can be accessed from I-81 south. Both have swimming beaches. Locust Lake has a paved trail around the lake for bikes or walking. Pine Grove Furnace has new bath houses,a new snack bar bath house at the lake,a small visitor center and,if you like history,a former POW camp close by. They have have a pamphlet for a self guided tour and sell a book on it.If you have a dog, make sure you get a pet site. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/staythenight/camping/

I was at an RV show earlier this year and was impressed by the booth that this campground had. It is about as far south in NJ as you can get but may be worth the trip. I plan to drive there from VA one of these days and check it out:

We've been there quite a few times. It's always been good in our opinion. From VA go to Lewes, DE and take the ferry to NJ. It probably doesn't cost much more than driving all the way around would and is much more relaxing.

Turkey swamp park in freehold nj

Turkey swamp is up the road from me.. Nice place but only has water and electric. no sewer.. Has dump station..

Other state parks that I often go in NJ have no hook ups...

Also many state parks have a length limit...

We just came from spruce run stat park last week. No hook ups but many sites are right at the banks of the reservoir..

This is a good state park that will fit larger units..

Turkey swamp also fits larger units and most sites are pull throughs...
  • Not a state park, but Fla-Net in Netcong has FHU sites. Not the nicest RV park in the world, but it would do for a night or 2. Make sure you know how to get there before you get there. GPS was zero help.

  • You will not find a full hookup state park in NJ. There are plenty of private campgrounds that are pretty good.
Most of the campgrounds are in the southern part of the state near the shore area with a few in the northwest area near the Delaware Water Gap.
