We've only used it as a stopover on the way further south, but I still highly recommend it. Staff are great and the people who go there even better. We rolled in about 11:00 on our first trip to OBX with our Endura after having some issues with the unit on the way down. Not only did the staff go out of their way to help get us settled, the people camping on either side gave offers of help-and beer! You can take their tours into DC, hitch a ride to the Metro (recommended) or take your own vehicle to the Metro.
If you are a light sleeper I highly recommend being as far away from the highway as possible. Traffic is non-stop all night long-semis, motorcycles, sirens, etc., drift up from the highway to the cg. If you keep the windows closed and run your a/c, no issue. All in all it's one of the best campgrounds we've stayed at.
