Camping ideas for summer??

Looking for some places to go within 6 hours of Cleveland, OH area. Just bought our RV in the fall and only got out to Mohican and East Harbor. Ive read a ton and there is so much to see its just overwhelming to pick a place. Obviously there is the UP in Michigan or the Poconos... But any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • take a look at cook's forest in NW PA......really nice river to float there and several other things to do.
  • I just booked Hocking Hills for Memorial weekend... pretty excited! Still trying to decide on july 4th weekend. Also thinking the UP or Bar Harbor/Acadia when i have 2 weeks off in August. I have 3 days off every week so I really appreciate all the ideas. I will try out a lot this year. Thanks again!
  • If you have kids one of your first stops should be Cedar Point the roller coaster capital of the US/world.
  • Austin Lake in Toronto,Ohio Beautiful scenery and has a ton of things to do.

Yes... Natural Bridge and even Carter Caves, they have a nice campground and cave tours as well.
  • You are from Ohio... You definately need to go to Hocking Hills in OH. It is listed as the BEST place to camp in all of Ohio.

This isn't anywhere near OH but we was driving around at the end of last season just visiting the SKYLINE DRIVE and parts of Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. Had a picnic basket with us and just the wife and me in the F150 Truck.

Ended up running into SHERANDO LAKE VA again and haven't been there in a few years, We have both TENT camped and POPUP TRAILER camped here a few times over the years.

Brought back some good memories so we are planning to go here again and camp out this coming season as long as they will let us stay there. Probably 14-days...

They have a tent camping area that has a whole bunch of tent camp sites surrounded with boulders for privacy with steps leading up them. There is a parking area just at the bottom of the stepping stones and my OFF-ROAD POPUP will fit there just fine. Will setup a large gazebo up near the bonfire area. There is no power or water here so will fit right into my camping off the grid we both love to do. Plenty of privacy here between the camp sites... ALso lots of trails to hike and a nice hugh lake to sit and watch the kids having fun. Local town for groceries not too far away...

We have a 255AH battery bank and have all the 120VAC and 12VDC things that will run for us for the one day/night off the batteries. Then the next morning we will run our 2KW generator with the POPUP trailer shore power connected to charge up our battery bank again in a quick three hours time.

We like camping off the power grid doing it this way...

  • Narrow it down by your interests. Are you interested in museums? Nature like bird watching or ecosystems? Festivals? Kayaking/canoeing? Fishing?

Start with your personal interests and proceed to find places that accommodate them.
