Camping in the Adirondacks

We've made a last-minute decision to continue up to the Adirondacks MNT .... We are looking for good campground for a 25 foot travel trailer around lake Placid... We prefer a state park camping ... We have 5 days we can stay up there ... We can do dry camping or hook ups ....The plan is to hike check out the lakes and just relax ...
Any suggestions would be a help...

Come and visit Ausable Chasm campground where we camp, there's lots to see and do in the area including the Chasm hikes and rafting.

  • We have stayed at both state campgrounds, Wilmington Notch and Meadow brook, both are ok but Meadow Brook is right next to the Tail of the Pup which has good food and a live band most nights. Our favorite is the North Pole Resort, Jim runs a nice place, store is well stocked, campground is neat and the shower/rest rooms are clean.
  • We liked The North Pole Campground. We were on the river side but next time we want to stay on the wooded side.

Its not a State Park but we have always had good luck at Whiteface Mountain KOA.

I believe it is in the town of Upper Jay, which is on the Ausable river.
You can hike from the sites down to the river and jump off the rocks and swim.....(if that's your thing)

Be sure to drive up the mountain and walk the tunnel to the peak.

Only about 25 or 30 min. to Lake Placid

Beautiful area and plenty to do!

Very clean campground and decent size sites.

    Good Luck

  • Wilmington Notch is a State cg close to Lake Placid but the sites are tight. Meadowbrook is another possibility but we've never stayed there.
Fish Creek / Rollins Pond are popular but they're a bit away from Lake Placid.
For a private cg our favorite is North Pole Resort (100 Acre Wood side) in Wilmington.
