Southern UT, AZ and TX will be hot that time of year. Shoot for places with higher elevation where possible. Cedar Breaks Natl Monument, Bryce Canyon, N. rim of Grand Canyon, that sort of place.
I'm sure there will be plenty of suggestions about your I-90 route and Yellowstone from those who know the area well.
