when I parked my car at an overlook at Canyon Dechelly somebody tried to use a slim jim and pop the door lock. I was told that if there is an old pickup truck with two old males in it when you pull in, leave one person in the car while the other goes to the overlook and then reverse the procedure.
some people who have stayed at that campground at CDC were warned not to leave any valuables out when they left for the day.
of course this could happen anywhere

Canyon de Chelly is over a 150 miles from Tuba City and is owned and operated by the National Parks system :h
I fully realize that. do the areas happen to have any similarities with respect to income/poverty levels, crime statistics, etc.

Don't worry, you will see the same question phrased in basically the same manner about lots of campgrounds.
Except they weren't asking about a specific campground they were asking about land controlled by the Navajo Nation. It would be like a Canadian citizen asking if it was ok to camp in the U.S.A. or vice versa. Just sayin - KA4EBUExplorerDon't worry, you will see the same question phrased in basically the same manner about lots of campgrounds.

Has anyone ever camped in Tuba City, AZ on Navajo Nation property? Is it safe?
For you or the Navajo?? :B:B:B - eubankExplorerAlways ask. It's private property, so you can't just park anywhere.
Highway 160 runs through Tuba City east-west, but it is not the same as Main Street, which runs north-south. Turn to the north on Main Street to see more of town.
All that said, we parked across the street from the restaurant beside the Quality Inn on Main Street. The restaurant next door, architecturally similar to a giant kiva, serves a darned good Indian Taco, too. And just to the south of the Quality Inn -- corner of Main Street and Moenave Street -- is a good trading post with a bunch of interesting historical stuff.
The RV park is town is located behind the Quality Inn.
See if I can post a link to Google maps here:
