Cape Cod campgrounds

I think I have narrowed down to a few campgrounds we would like to stay at this fall. We're planning a last week of Sept-1st week of Oct trip. Maybe some of you locals can give me some perspective on where to stay. We've never been there before so don't have a concept of drive times, reservation needs, etc. We are looking for a full hookup site if possible.
I'm thinking Sweetwater Forest, Shady Knoll are probably better located for us, but Atlantic Oaks has very good reviews, too.
Which would you pick and why?
  • Sweetwater is lovely. Unfamiliar with Shady. Atlantic Oaks is tight next to the main road though I’ve never stayed there.
  • Thanks for the response. Part of the reason we ended up picking the weeks we did was to leave before Columbus Day weekend. We will either head home Thursday or Friday morning.
  • October 6-8 is Columbus Day weekend. You will most likely need reservations for that weekend. It's the "last hurrah" for many campers and many of the campgrounds shut down then. That is a great time to be down there-school is in session, weather is usually very nice and it's an underrated and overlooked place for foliage. You will most likely be to early for that but that will be dependent on when the cool weather returns. We liked Peters Pond Park but it's been a long time since we've stayed there. It's on a fresh water pond and gives great access to the upper Cape.
