Cape Cod Vacation

We are heading to Cape Cod next week and staying at Atlantic Oaks. Any great recommendations for food, activities, nature, etc? We have never been and have been too busy to extensively research.

Thanks!
  • Go to the fishing dock in Chatham and watch them unload the fishing boats.
  • The Cape Cod Rail Trail is GREAT for cycling. It goes past Arnolds where they have a really nice Airstream set up as a bathroom stop.
The Brewster General Store is worth a visit, and there's an ice cream shop next door. Also check out the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster.
If your truck is a 4X4 and meets some other requirements you can get a beach driving permit ($50 / week.) Air down the tires, drive out to Race Point, and pull up a piece of beach.
A visit to Provincetown is an interesting social experience.
  • Nickerson State Park in Brewster for biking, hiking, fishing. Old Jailhouse in Orleans for dinner -- Brewster Coffee House for breakfast.

National Seashore for outdoors and beach activities -- Old Kings Highway in Brewster, Orleans, Dennis, and Barnstable for historic homes. Heritage Gardens in Sandwich (Beginning of the Cape - on Rte 6A) for gardens, flowers, history.

Take in a CCBL baseball game in Orleans, Chatham, Brewster (and other Cape towns) -- All-star college exhibition players -- best college baseball you'll ever see = cost $2 ... runs every night for ten weeks.

Academy of Performing Arts for plays - very good local live theater ...
  • We stayed at Atlantic Oaks a couple of years ago and loved it! The sites weren't huge but it is one of the cleanest campgrounds we've ever stayed at. It backs up to the bike path that you can bike or hike for miles. We were there after Labor Day and stopped along all the shore points. There's hiking trails all over the place. On the bay side right near the cg is one of the premier spots for a sunset stroll. The Marconi site is pretty cool. A day trip to Plymouth is worth it, although if you're going during the summer months, traffic may put a damper on such a trip.
  • Cape Cod National Seashore has some of the most beautiful beaches. Beware that the water is COLD! On your way down, stop at the visitor center in Plymouth. You'll be able to pick up some good info there.
  • spent my honeymoon there ,that was 38yrs back must be a nice place. go to marthasvinyard ,
  • Arnold's in Eastham, Wellfleet area. right on rt.6. Clam chowder, scallops, and haddock with ice cream for dessert. I want to be there now!! Only we are in Durango Co. And this is area be on everyone's bucket list.
