That isn't a hotel, it is a theater. But you are right. It was intended to be a large commercial development, but never took off.

We like RVaction in Selma NC. I think it's exit 97 from I 95 southbound. We also really like South of the Border Campground on the border of NC and SC. South of the border also offers a very RV friendly fuel island if your pulling a towed. Both pull through friendly campgrounds too. As a matter of fact we stayed at the South of the Border campground last night.

Camp Lake Jasper in Hardeville, SC is near the GA/SC border. I stayed there for an overnight stop on the way to Myrtle Beach and found it was very easy in and out from 95. I had a pull through that was smaller than I would have preferred for longer stay, but it was level enough I didn't have to disconnect TT from truck, which was more important for an overnight.

traveling by myself, I felt comfortable getting out and walking the park, so that made it even better.

If it were me, I'd leave earlier and just take I-95 (295 around Richmond). We travel from southwest NJ (about an hour north of you) to southeast GA multiple times a year, just did it last weekend. We leave NJ at 3 am and get to the top of NC by 8 am. That's with Cruise Control on 74 and no stopping other than tolls. No traffic anywhere at 3 am.

Since you are heading to Orlando, if you need to get there earlier in the day, I'd recommend getting into Georgia. Travel hard that first day and then take a nice easy drive from GA to FL. Orlando traffic is rough almost any time of the day. We just drove to Celebration, FL (about 15 minutes south of Disney World) for the day yesterday. We left the house at 5:15 am. When we got to Orlando around 8 am, there was already traffic building. Construction is the culprit right now.

It's been a long time since we stayed at a campground along I-95. Once we bought the Motorhome, we just stopped at Walmart for a quick overnight. I have noticed most of the campgrounds (mostly KOAs) that we have stayed at before the Motorhome, no longer advertise along I-95, so I don't have any recommendations for you there.

Jacksonville FL, to Mtns of VA, we always stop at Lake Jasper in Hardeeville SC, just north of the SC/GA line. GS park, excellent facilities, bring your poptarts, no restaurant.

Carolina Crossroads is the place too stop. Forall the reasons previously mentioned. Yes you can drive farther but why?

Just another related note regarding heading down the Eastern Shore to the Bridge/Tunnel: If you get delayed, and have to stop earlier, there are several campgrounds near the north end of the Bridge/Tunnel. The newest and nicest is the newly renovated KOA close to the Bridge. Pull through sites, full hookups, and brand new shower houses. Also a nice beach and view of the bay.
