Hi,We were thinking to plan a trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. We see the Amusement Park has it's own Campground. We were wondering if the on site Campground is any good or if there are any good ones nearby that we should consider. Obvious benefits of on site campground are closeness to go back and forth into the Amusement Park and no need to pay for parking because we are already there.If you have ever been to the Amusement Park, how was it? How many days should we plan and what are your thoughts on tickets. Are there any discounts out there. Any advice or help with planning would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Two days minimum. It's known for roller coasters, they have over 20 of them. The Lighthouse Point Section of the campground is what you want. Full hook ups, concrete pads, etc, etc. The older Wagon Wheel CG is W/E only (pretty sure) so avoid that part.Have Fun!

Great place! We spent 4 days in the campground, 3 days in the park. You will definitely want the lighthouse point section. It's $$$$$ but well worth it! I'll dig up a picture later.

I have gone at least 12 times in my life, but haven't been back in several years. Honestly, unless you have teenagers, it's not that fun for kids simply because the lines are so long that they get bored and lose interest. The newest coasters will likely have a 3 hour wait. My friend's 13 year old boys went there in July. From open to close they rode 3 coasters due to the line length. If you have younger kids, it might be better to find a smaller more local park. It's just so busy.We actually take a longer trip to a different park just because the kids only have to wait 30 minutes, or in some cases, not at all to get on a ride.

I was hoping to make a trip there this year, but not enough seniority to get any summer time off. But, in my research, staying at the campground is well worth it. Money saved on food, early admission into the park, money saved on parking, and the convenience of walking home is awesome. Downside in my research, if you are early to bed or a late riser, you won't like the noise from the park operations.

Where was the kennel right on the campground? I was considering using the Lighthouse campground because I could walk out and check the dogs mid day without having to drive somewhere and pay for parking again but an onsite kennel would be good too.

And don't forget Kings Dominion in Va. is also a Cedar Fair park and they have a campground there also.

Good info, We do have plans for Kings Dominion as well. KIngs Domiion is only 21/2 hours from us.

Last year my kids did Kings Dominion in the AM ...and Carowinds in the PM.. I was traveling for work and they came with... The weekend before they did Dorney... Cedar Point is on my radar also

I hear you on the tourist trap, but truth is on this trip I am a tourist. As much as I like to meet genuine locals, touristy things are not totally bad when you are from out of town.

If you came to Maryland as a out of towner, I think you would enjoy Harbor Place,Camden Yards,Fells Point,Fort McHenry,Deep Creek and Ocean City (our tourists traps)more than Ellicott City.
Although Ellicott City does have a main street tourist area!

We will enjoy Cedar Point and explore the surrounding areas.
I will make the most of the adventure tourist traps and all area.Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Just remember it is a tourist trap area. I would submit a visit to the Cheese Shop if you like Cheese. If you have time take a trip to Berlin it is the heart of Amish Country and worth a day or two nothing open on Sunday.

Here are my notes on where we stayed near the Flight 93 memorial:
Pioneer Park Campground

Site: 241

Site Notes: Pull through area; extremely level (no blocks needed), 50amp service, water, sewer; honor system on sewer - we didn't pay for it or use it even though it was there

Campground Notes: This area was pretty tight. The first site we looked at would have been a problem with our slides extending into the neighbors tents. We switched sites and called the front desk.
