Census Question

Thank you, everyone! I figured they had a way to account for multiple residences (I have a friend who has 3 homes!).

Ahhh... that works! I'll wait and fill out Michigan's first; then Florida's as a non-resident after April 1st. I figured there are things that Brevard County "needs" as far as data goes, too.

My Opinion: However, with a population of over 300 MILLION, I seriously doubt anyone will be knocking on your door to explain your census answers.

C. The Final 2020 Census Residence Criteria and Residence Situations

The Residence Criteria are used to determine where people are counted during the 2020 Census. The Criteria say:

Count people at their usual residence, which is the place where they live and sleep most of the time.
People in certain types of group facilities on Census Day are counted at the group facility.
People who do not have a usual residence, or who cannot determine a usual residence, are counted where they are on Census Day.

Key word is 'residency'---reside

That means which state you have residency in.....domicile state for FTrs
Physical official address

Residency....Drivers License, Voting etc.


NOT where you happen to be while traveling, vacationing, visiting relatives.

Census is about counting who is who IN the state they have residency in.

I'm assuming I'll get this for our Michigan residence, too. Do I fill out just one, or both? If there's benefits for my Florida area, I hate to deny them - but then I'd get counted twice?

As I read the DOC info pertaining to Usual Residence, it is where a person lives and sleeps most of the time. We fulltime and are SD residents, but usual residence turns out to be Louisiana.
