As a 34 year resident of Colorado, I can tell you that the second week of September will be early for fall color especially in southern Colorado. There may be some color at the highest elevations. Peak color is usually third to fourth week of September. Can last into first week of October. In that part of the state I would guess peak color to be closer to October 1. Cottonwoods along the rivers at lower elevations will be first to second week of October.
I was afraid of that but this is when we have scheduled to get away. We will be in Colorado Sept 5-13th and in Chama 13-15th. It looks like we will miss most of the color change but hopefully we will see some of the beginnings of it. Wish we could go a couple of weeks later but we have employees who already requested vacations then. Owning an AC business is tough due to the NO Summer time vacation and all employees (including us owners) schedule time off September-April most if the time. It is still hot in Texas in September so DH and I are really the only ones who take 1st couple of weeks of September but we eat, breath and sleep this business year round (me running the office and him doing bids and being the goto guy for our employees and customers). By September, we need to get away from it all (especially the PHONES). Next year I may schedule differently and go a couple of weeks later and do it all again to see the color changes...I love that sort of thing. Thanks for the tip!
