well we had reservations for 2 weeks at Havasu but had to cancel for medical.we will be arriving for 2 weeks on 28th now. have traveled only to Yuma once. we are at a loss of where to go now. want to spend 5 more weeks. thought of Scottsdale, know nothing of area.any ideas please

Well, if you come to Yuma, there's lots of choices for RV parks.

With snowbird season upon us, it may be difficult to find a location to stay for an extended period of time in the greater Phoenix area.In the Scottsdale area is Eagle View RV Resort on the Fort McDowell Indian Reservation. The RV resort is on one side of the highway with a casino on the other.If you don't mind the lack of full hookups (water and electric only), there is McDowell Mountain Park which is part of the Maricopa County Park system. There is a two week limit which would force you to move. There are however several parks to choose from. All have a dump station.Cal-Am resorts in the Mesa area might be another option to try.

You mentioned Scottsdale which really isn't a RVers paradise. If you want the greater Phoenix area go over toward the Apache Junction area. It's a lot more pleasant than Phoenix, Scottsdale or Mesa.Agreed with another poster above that if you're up to moving after two weeks, you can't beat the Maricopa County Parks' campgrounds. They are beauties. There's Lake Pleasant, Cave Creek, McDowell Mountain and Usery. They have huge lovely sites. Also consider Lost Dutchman State Park at Apache Junction. You won't find better scenery anywhere else in the area. Reservations are now a must for these parks in winter as the word has gotten out that they are jewels. Good luck!

Headed that way as well with first stop being Palm Springs. The Casino is a great place to stay until you find a spot in a RV park etc. if hookups are needed. If you have never been to Quartzite I say it is a must during the week of the RV show which starts on Jan. 16th this year. (Doubt you will find a place with hookups so it will be dry camping really cheap or free) Forget about Scottsdale area after that since EVERYTHING is booked already. Trust me I tried a few months back to get reservations. Barrett Jackson Auction is also there at the same time. We tend to head to Yuma for a week or so after Q and never run out of things to see and do...or just do nothing is always good. A day trip over to Mexico is always fun and we find it very safe. We have headed to Tucson and stayed at Lazy Days which is really nice. Last year went to Sedona which was awesome. The helicopter ride is a must as well. Lots of great places in AZ not to mention getting out of this Valley cold :)

just read an article about Riverside resort in Laughlin, NV. says it is by Colorado river. any comments about Laughlin

I would agree with this. Catalina is nice and with lots of good hiking. I have not tried much beyond Catalina but was happy with that choice. Great asset for Tucson and so near everything it is hard to beat.

Could stay in Mesa and paddle in Saguaro Lake, or perhaps in the Verde River near Fountain Hills as well. Then there is also Tempe Town Lake. None closer than camping on Lake Pleasant.

O.K.....for kayaks stay either at Lake Pleasant west of Phoenix or Lost Dutchman State Park at Apache Junction. I assume you can load the kayaks on your vehicle so then drive the nearby Apache Trail where you'll find a few gorgeous lakes.

Go to Tucson. Lots of reasonably priced RV parks; state campgrounds in the mountains and out in the desert; boondocking opportunities everywhere. Prices are low for everything (including gas!).

It's a cosmopolitan city of over half a million people. LOTS of stuff going on. Great Mexican and Asian food. Concerts, plays, U of A athletic events. Great art galleries and bookstores. Lots of day trip possibilities, including Nogales, Mexico an hour away.

You'll see a lot of your fellow snowbirds there, though there aren't as many as there are in some of the utterly repulsive AZ destinations such as Yuma and Quartzite. Tucson is a great place to drop anchor and experience for a few weeks.

Lake Pleasant (Maricopa County Park) would be an excellent choice for that, but even if you can get in, you'll be limited to your stay as I mentioned earlier.

We were in Sedona in Feb. last year and it was "shorts" weather during the day. If your an Elk the Lodge there has full hookup sites :)
