Charlotte NC area campgrounds

My wife wants to attend a quilt show in Charlotte NC at the end of July. What would be a good campground for us to stay in so she can go and I can hang around and not go!:) I know I can do a google search and get a listing but it also helps to have some first hand knowledge from those who know about them.

Thanks in advance.
  • Ft mill KOA will be the closest with fhu for you. Otherwise you will be driving 20 miles and more. Ft mill KOA is not too far away from airport either.
  • If you want easy access to the convention center and airport, then the closest to both is Fieldridge Acres (www.fieldridgeacres.com).

Weve stayed there a few times. .. not best on amenities, but a nice place to stay for a few days while in town.
  • If you are just looking for a spot - not lots of amenities - check out Ver-el campground near the speedway. Basic services and not expensive - so long as no races or speedway activities.

Kings mtn is nice, and not a bad drive. Where is the show located? Lake Norman is a nice place to visit, largest on the east coast I believe. Check Cross Country Campground in Denver NC off of hwy 150. It is a 45 min ride to downtown on 90% 4 lane roads. The campground offers nice area and putt putt golf and a nice general store and laundry all within walking/golf cart ride. Also, it pits you about 15 min from Mooresville which has most of your NASCAR teams and museums.

I would not suggest Lake Norman Campground across from Lineberger Restaurant, also on hwy 150. It is more of a parking lot.

Must have hit the submit button when you did. Show is at the convention center. Thanks

  • Thanks for the suggestions. The show she wants to go to is at the Charlotte Convention Center, plus she is actually flying into Charlotte from Oregon that day at a time yet to be determined so proximity to the airport and the convention center is fairly important.
  • Not sure what you may prefer or what side of town/distance you want.

We've stayed at Kings Mt just in SC off i85... State Park so low cost and nice. To downtown Charlotte, probably 45 minutes to an hour.

Closer is Fieldridge Acres, near the Airport. Its a nice campground for a short stay, but low amenities.

There are several others in the region... Checkout RVPParkReviews.com for more.
  • We've stayed at the Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA just South of Charlotte. It was clean with shade. The nice thing was the "cocktail lounge" located in the office. You can have a few drinks/food and walk back to your site. The pool was OK,too.
DW did an IKEA visit so I hung out at the CG.
There's a CG next to the speedway, but it's nothing but a large gravel parking lot with no shade.
