Chatfield State Park (Colorado) in early October

Has anyone stayed at Chatfield State Park, just south of Littleton, Co, in October? We are planning to be there over the weekend of Oct. 5-6. Based on their web site, they will have gone to their winter schedule when camping is first-come, first-served. We are wondering if there will be any problems getting a space.
  • I have found that very often a call to the office answers all of my questions about a particular park.
  • Should not be a problem, but like was said, give them a call beforehand. I have stayed there many times, it is in metro Denver, so if it is a nice weekend, lots of people will be heading out there.
  • I tried to get my reservation for Cheyenne Mountain switched over to Cherry Creek (the other state park in Denver) for that weekend since we need to be in Denver. Cherry Creek was already booked full that weekend, so if weather is nice your Saturday arrival at Chatfield might be an issue. Park might fill up Friday night. Definitely call first.
  • Generally if a park has gone to a first come/served winter schedule it means that demand is low. Been to Chatfield. Very nice park.
  • Chatfield SP and reservoir will be undergoing massive reconstruction/enlargement in the near future but I'm not up on just when that will start. Check with them before you finalize any plans. best alternative in Denver area is Cherry Creek SP.
