Cheoah Lake North Carolina Smoky Mountains

Set camp on the shores of Cheoah Lake in the Nantahaha National Forest. The Fontana Village campground has tent, trailer and motor coach sites available. The Campground at Fontana Village features both hookup sites for motor homes and trailers, and tent-camping sites. All sites include access to all the amenities of the Village including the pools, putt-putt and all the other fun games and programs available. Water and electric hook ups, a bath house, picnic tables and a wonderful view of the river and Fontana Dam. An RV dump station is located at the entrance to the campground. Tent site prices range between $20.00 to $30.00 per night. Sites with hook-up range from $25.00 to $40.00. Call for reservations 828-498-2100 -

And No I don't have anything to do with this campground other than liking the Smokys on the North Carolina side!

    Curious on this.

Is the campground right near the pool and lazy river, like able to walk to it or is this village a drive from it?

Is the cg on the lake? or water access. haven't found a site map. checking around tho :)

The Cg is about a mile or so down 28 from the main resort. The route I gave in my previous post is very doable. There were 35' travel trailers at the cg when we were there. Here's the campground link

Looks like they're having their clogging event again in September. We made some good friends among the cloggers and keep in touch. Good people. Here's the link to that event. http://www.fontanaworkshop.com/
  • Fontana is a few miles from the end of the tail. You can come from the south or from the east and easily avoid the tail.

When we camped there we were below the dam. Of course if the dam were to break the campground would be only a memory.

It is a very nice area but none of the roads in the area are big rig friendly.
  • The campground map is on the check rates page. Looks like lazy river is right there.
Thanks for the info about the campground. I love The Smokey Mountains.

OOPS I goofed. Looks like the campground is on the other side of 28

Tell me there is another way to get there other than the Tail of the Dragon (Hwy 129) and I would be plenty interested. That's only a short 2 hour drive from the home.
It does sit on part of the Tail. Serpentine yes, but not scary if you take 129 to Robbinsville and beyond. When you arrive at Deals Gap intersection where 129 heads to TN, you take NC 28 to the right. I navigated it with a 28 foot trailer in tow behind a full bed, crew cab truck. no problems as long as you mind the speed limit. That route runs next to the lake and doesn't have the steep grade of Sweetwater Rd.

We're right with you on that.

We've camped there in the Fall and it's great. Head over to the restaurant in the lodge for the breakfast buffet and you won't be sorry. One weekend had a clog dancing jamboree and they let us come in and watch. Apparently Fontana originated some of the dance steps according to one of the instructors. A lot of fun, catchy music.

We wrote our review a few years ago over at Trip Advisor. You can put yours there too to give a more recent eval.
