Chesapeake bay camping suggestion.

I agree that New Point is nice but bring what you will need with you. It is literally in the middle of nowhere.
Right on the bay, nice beach, marina, boat ramp. Used to be seasonals everywhere but nice ones.
They used to lock the gate at night, not sure what new owners do.

New Point Rv resort, fits your requirements well.

About 60 miles north of Cherrystone, (shorter drive for you) Located on the Pocomoke Sound and is close to Chinkoteague. The campground owners are great and will do everything they can to keep your group together. They have great water view and water front sites, but call early to reserve.

Kiptopeke, a VA State Park on the bay with FHUs. Overpriced like all VA Parks but worth it. It's just 3 miles north of Sunset Beach RV Resort which by the way has been raped by the new owners. 10 miles south of Cherrystone.
Kiptopeke has 2 beaches, easy kayak launching and rental, and cute Cape Charles just 7 miles up the road with some good eats. Large sites, walking trails, one of the beaches is dog friendly. It used to be a private CG back when the ferries were still running.

We have camp hosted at Point Lookout for 3 years and it does have FHU sites in the Tulip Loop. There are 6 different loops, each with different offerings: no hookups, electric only, water and electric or FHU in Tulip Loop. A couple of the loops are on the water, but not Tulip Loop. That being said, it is about a 3 minute walk to one of the loops that are on the water. Most of the sites in Tulip Loop have lots of shade. Most sites in Green's Loop, which is right on the water, does NOT have any shade, or very limited shade. Hoffman has a lot of shade and is right on the water, but no sewer. Each of the campgrounds have nice bath houses with the exception of Tulip Loop. It accommodates "self-contained" RVs only, so no popups (without a bathroom) or tents.

They have a large pier on the Chesapeake Bay and then the campground loops are actually on the Potomac or a small manmade lake off of the Potomac. There are smaller piers at Green's loop and Hoffman. There is a beach area on the Potomac, which is very nice. It has picnic tables and is very shady, but it is used most weekends by many, many family and church groups. It is very crowded then. During the week, it is usually fairly empty.

Our kids (9 and 12) LOVE it. The nature center there has some great programs and they have a Jr. Ranger camp every summer. (You must register early and be there during those weeks.) The sites are pretty good size and there is lots of vegetation between the sites, so you have plenty of privacy.

There is not much around, other than the campground, but a 15-20 minute drive will get you into Lexington Park/Hollywood to take advantage of restaurants, shopping, etc. There is a Dollar General about 2 miles from the campground for most things you would NEED while camping, plus a limited supply of groceries.

Now, being on the water, the campgrounds/park is BUGGY! Be sure to bring lots of bug spray.

We love the Sunset Beach RV Resort in Cape Charles. Kind of pricey, but is located at the north entrance to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and has been recently renovated. Beautiful sights with all amenities. Located on the Chesapeake Bay and has a nice beach and two freshwater pools. Lots to see and do in the area.

Another vote for Point Lookout.
