Chilly Halloween Weekend

Took off work early on Friday, dropped my little trailer on the ball of my truck and headed North.

Following US31 along the coast line, I was treated to some towns lucky enough to have a few inches of snow on the ground already, and got to drive through some near white-out conditions... maybe this season will be a repeat of last year?

I arrived at Wilderness State Park outside Mackinaw City and was surprised to find that I'm the only one here. I haven't gone over to the newer inland loop, but the lake shore loops are empty.

Friday it was 28-29F and a 40-50 mph wind from the North off Lake Michigan... after fighting with the hitch ball not wanting to let go, I was too cold to mess with the stab jacks until this morning. This morning the wind has died down and the clouds have parted - was down to about 15F but now is closer to 30.

Hoping for some good star watching tonight next to a big camp fire.

  • You can have the camping sites. I'm done. It's too cold. :)

It was 35, and raining/snowing while we went Trick or Treating. Then the high wind advisory came out.

    I'm looking forward to May!!

We went to Wilderness over the fourth. LOVED, LOVED the campground. It's now one of my favorites. We had a site right on Lake Michigan. We'll be back to bike the trails.

Just down the street is the International Dark Sky Park. We didn't try it out and you might have good luck just sitting at your site, but if you want to look at stars, you might want to give that a try.
  • Sounds like a plan! If you have a smart phone you can get an astronomy app that will help you ID the stars and planets. GoSkyWatch is a good one.
  • Yep, there is something about camping in chilly weather. It just feels more like being outdoors when it's cold.

    Have fun!
