Christmas trip suggestions .

Looking for suggestions for a Christmas trip. Hoping for something interesting for the teenage kids and their parents . We live in NC, did the Florida Keys last Christmas, any suggestions? We have 10 days, so we can't go much more than 1,000 miles.

  • Waveland and Bay St. Louis, MS are also faves of ours! Buccaneer SP is really nice and they have extended stays during the winter months.
  • Florida Panhandle is great and it should not be too cold there until January. We love Mexico Beach, St. Josephs Island State Park, Panama City area etc.
Also, look at Huntington Beach St. Park as we've been there lots during the Christmas Holidays since our son has a place in Murrell's Inlet, SC. We also have enjoyed Jekyll Island, GA.
  • Looks like we're going to try out the Gulf Coast. We're going to Biloxi and points unknown from there.
  • Last year we spent Christmas in Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina. The day we arrived the temperature was 80 degrees. The rest of the week it was in the 60 during the day, cooler at night. They have a very dedicated group of people at the Nature Center. They had programs or nature walks every day, even on Christmas Day.Murrels Inlet is just up the road and they have some nice restaurants.
  • St Augustine, FL

Tropical Palms RV Resort at Kissimmee, FL

    Ft. Meyers/Ft. Meyers Beach area
  • The Everglades National Park in south Florida.
You can either camp in Long Pine Key which has no hook ups, or try to get a reservation in Flamingo which has some electric sites.
Or you could stay just outside the park in Homestead at Miami Everglades camp ground which is a nice place with full hook ups and all amenities including a pool. It is close enough for day trips into the park and other places outside the park.
If this interests you, e-mail me and I'll give you all kinds of info on good canoe trails/rentals and bike trails and hiking trails in and out of the park

Back when our kids were younger they loved the Everglades and we did several Christmas trips there.
Now my wife and I winter in the Keys and still head into the Everglades every each year exploring a new part

  • We also like to take trips over Christmas break but don't have much more than a week. We usually go on a 5 day cruise if there is one scheduled or to the southern part of Florida where we are guaranteed warm temps.
