Civil War museums along Rt 81
I'm heading south on Rt 81 and would like to stop at Civil War museums. What is the best one? Bradndale

While you are at it and if time permits, if you get to Roanoke, head east on US 460 about 70 miles to Appomattox, site of the surrender grounds where the war officially ended.
Of course, if the government is still shut down you won't be able to see much. You can walk around the grounds though. SR 24 that goes through the park has several pull offs so you can walk around.
