Hey Dad. It's often cheaper to hotel vs. RV. However it's seldom as much fun
LOL, so true.
Ok, so we went to Langhorne this past Friday and came home on Sunday. On our way up we stopped at
Sweet Lucy's Smokehouse for BBQ. This came as a tip to us a few years back from my uncle and we stop as frequently as possible when driving up I-95 to Philadelphia (which isn't nearly enough). Killer good food. A little spendy from what I remember, but exquisite. :D
We arrived at the
Comfort Inn Levittown-Bensalem. It's a little tricky to get to because the Bristol Pike is a divided highway, so you can only enter and leave from one direction. The area is a weird mix of seemingly business/industrial and residential. And, there was always some kind of funky smell outside. We smelled it there and up the road when we did a grocery run to Walmart.
The hotel itself was fine. For $64/night- I had very low expectations and they were easily met. The hotel's lobby was pretty enough- seems like it got a recent facelift. But, there was a heavy perfume smell in the lobby and hallways. They're obviously covering the smell of
something, I didn't want to know what. I have issues with strong perfume smells- it literally hurts my throat and will eventually give me a headache.
Fortunately, our room was free of the perfume stench. We had 2 queen beds and they brought up a pack & play for a crib. It was clean and the shower was remarkably good (tall enough for me and good pressure with a decent showerhead). The room included a microwave and mini-fridge. The mini-fridge lacked a freezer which was disappointing for our ice packs and cooler plans for 2 days at Sesame Place. The breakfast was your standard fare bagels, waffle maker, bad looking fruit, cereal, etc. They had a "hot bar" with slab-circles of "eggs" and sausage. Edible enough (again, $64/night- low expectations!).
The drive to Sesame Place was only about 6 miles or so but still took close to 20 minutes. Very windy and a lot of turns per Apple Maps on our phone. Not bad other than 1 weird intersection where the straight through lanes had a stop sign and the opposing turning lane didn't. But, nothing to get upset over. :)
Sesame Place was fun. We had been there years ago with our (now 10 year old) daughter. Our 2 year old son surprised us with not being afraid of the characters and giving big hugs. Saturday was quite low crowd-wise. We didn't have to wait more than a ride full of people to get onto almost anything. In fact, the Super Grover roller coaster- my daughter didn't even have to get up to ride a second time. She was funny, at 10- I'm sure she was as or more excited than our son. We got chased out for a couple of hours by rain, but it worked in our favor to get the kids some naps. Sunday got a lot more crowded as everyone was celebrating a beautiful day out with Mom. Surprisingly, they already have the water rides open. Not surprisingly, my daughter hounded us all day to get on them!
Choo Choo Soul were there (kids songs/train related). We actually reserved spots for the show ahead of time. That was a lot of fun for son and daughter. Heck, even for Mom and I- we've heard the songs enough times to be able to sing along. I even got a high five from the singer, Genevieve. She is quite beautiful. :)
Overall, I was a little surprised that the entire park could use a good power washing and a coat of paint. Big Bird is perched on top of the carousel and is downright dirty with black spots all over. I was a little sad to see it not kept up quite as well as it should.
We left later than we should on Sunday and stopped for an awful dinner at Friendlys. I try to keep those expectations low because we usually are disappointed- but this was still just bad. Well, except for the ice cream- that's always yummy. Home by about 11pm.
