Cobb Ridge Recreation Area, MO

Any one have any experience with Cobb Ridge Recreation Area just south of Springfield, MO? I read that it is a popular off-the-road park with many trails, etc for motorcycles, ATV's and the such. RVParkReviews gave is a bad rating, (5), but I'm not looking for it as a destination just a night over. My question is how bad can the ATV's be during the week in October? Park has a strange layout, but our B+ should be able to find a spot for the night then on our way to explore southwest MO and northern AR.
Just looking for some reassurance and hope that I'm right.

  • Went to Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, AR and it was nicer than I thought it would be. Just lucky we hit it on a Friday and not a weekend. People every where!!!! Just make me realize how much money the Waltons have. All in all a nice go see.
Then back to Roaring River SP and some trout fishing!
  • A little further south is Eureka Springs AR we loved the area
  • Thanks again for all the replies. We just pulled in to Indian Point about 3pm on this Wed afternoon and there was no traffic. Lucked out on a water front site too. Off to Top of the Rock tomorrow so for one night this is perfect and fits nicely into our 4 hour drive window we prefer.
Gotta keep Mill Creek COE in mind for later.
  • Top of the Rock is real close to old hwy 86 campground. We just visited Top of the Rock while staying at Indian Point and it was about 20 minutes. If I was not doing Silver Dollar City or the shows in Branson I would stay at Mill Creek COE. It is 3 miles south of Kimberling City.
  • Been to the Table Rock SP earlier this year and want a different park, even if only for a night. Old Hwy 86 is very interesting but the DW wants to visit Top of the Rock by Big Cedar Lodge, then visit Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, AR. before finally landing at Roaring River SP for a week of fishing. So it's either Indian Point or Old Hwy 86, just have to see how the driving goes and how far we want to push it.
Thanks to all for the input. Tomorrow will tell the tale!
  • We stayed at Table Rock Lake State Park last summer. You wouldn't know you were near Branson. There is a nice paved trail from the marina to the visitor center.
Roaring River State Park in SW Missouri (Cassville) is real nice although trout season ends in October and it is very busy that last weekend of season. Fishing is allowed on the campground 3 side of the river. Bull Shoals Lake SP on the white river below the dam is nice and Buffalo Point campground on the Buffalo River has beautiful bluffs. Scenic route 7 is beautiful.
  • We've stayed at the Indian Point COE campground a few times. No ATVs will be there. The only bad thing, that I remember, is the traffic in & out.
A better overnight, close to 65, would be the State Park. Or Old 86 HWY campground. Both can be accessed without getting into the hub-bub.
We just left Old 86, check for available sites.
  • Did some more research on Cobb Ridge and decided to trek on a bit farther to Indian Point Rec Area, COE Park. A lot closer to the Branson hub-bub than I like, but if I was willing to put up with ATV's and such, I guess I can survive a drive thru tourist trap. I've read the reviews, but again, it's only for a night.
    Any thoughts on Indian Point?
