Colleton State Park,South Carolina

We paddle the Edisto all summer. June is especially nice because it's warm enough to swim. Even in June the water is cool. Plenty sandbars to stop and take a dip and in that section of the river there's plenty of shade. Do it, you'll enjoy it.

That would be a fun canoe trip, but NOT in June. Then again, there's not a whole lot you can do in the Lowcountry in June and not be drenched in sweat.

When we went to Aiken State Natural Area we did the Canoe trip. $15 for two people and took a little over an hour. They throw you in and you get out at your vehicle. Was a pretty nice trip actually. Very quiet park, but don't tell anyone lol.

I think I'm going to make a reservation at Colleton as a stopover for us in mid June. It'll break our trip to Hunting Island into a 3.25 hour leg and a 1.5 hour leg. $15, right on the interstate, with power. No brainer.

One thing that looks interesting about Colleton SP is that you can canoe the Edisto from Colleton, 20 miles downriver to Givhans Ferry SP. Maybe in the Fall we'll make a long weekend trip out of that.

All SC state parks are Check in a 2pm, check out at noon. They usually don't have a problem with you checking in a noon though, from my experiences.

I had just called a Tennessee state park and they said check-in is at 4pm! I was shocked to say the least. But check-out is still at noon.

We've stayed there several times. Don't worry about leaving early, just tell the ranger when you check in. If there's no one in your site, they'll let you check in after mid-day. I guess you already know it's right off I-95. Easy in easy out.

Used to use Schumans' park just up the road from CSP. Very nice elderly gent owned the place. Not too many sites but all pull throughs. Haven't been that way in many years so not sure if its still open.

If you can get reservations, Santee is just north of Colleton and is just off of 95, and is a nice state park on the lake. The campground by the office seems to have bigger, more spaced out sites. We just got home from Santee about an hour ago actually...

All SC state parks I've been to (over a dozen), if they lock the gate at night, on the back of your parking pass they write down the gate code in case you do need to leave early, or come back to camp late. So that shouldn't even be an issue if you are needing to leave early. I haven't been to Colleton yet though myself, sorry.
