In September of 2011 we had a long trip planned. Our first week-end was at Gunnison, Colorado and from there we were going to Cheyenne Mountain State Park before heading on up to South Dakota, North Dakota, over to Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and home.
On the way from Gunnison to Cheyenne Mountain we became more and more concerned about wildfires here in East Texas. After calling a friend who was here in our small town, we decided to turn South at Pueblo and come straight home. The fires were within about five miles, but got no closer. Still, it was the only wise decision.
Fortunately, in 2012 we picked up and made the very trip we had planned the year before, and we had a great time.
So I hope you will not give up on Colorado, and Cheyenne Mountain is one of the greatest campgrounds we've ever visited.
