- soricobobExplorerColter Bay is not only the nicest camping place in the area, but it is among the top 5 in the U.S. If I were you I would plan my trip around what dates I could get in there!
- grampscamperExplorerI would agree with others. Colter Bay is a great campground. The best campground store we've ever seen. Very convenient location with awesome scenery.
One of my favorites. - Jim_ShoeExplorer2gypsies,
Yes, I do need FHUs for medical reasons. At least 30A, but I prefer FHUs. What possible business is it of yours? You aren't paying for it. - sidneyExplorerWe have a 36' 5th wheel... can the surrounding NFS parks outside of the NP accommodate large RVs?

We had no issues with Colter Bay, other than the pine needles all over the inside of the trailer. Still finding them after 5 years. Kinda brings back memories.
Probably makes it smell nice too. :)
Having driven by all of the private (hookup) parks mentioned, Colter Bay would definitely be our choice. In the future we may get a generator, which would allow us to consider the no-hookup NPS/NFS parks for more than a couple nights. To the OP - there really aren't a lot of RV-friendly CGs in GTNP and Jackson. Somewhat surprising, considering its popularity, but a lot of folks just make a day trip to the Tetons from Yellowstone. That may be part of the reason. - Bob___AnnExplorerWe really enjoyed Colter Bay two years ago. Great location and good restaurant and grocery store on property.

- padredwNomadColter Bay remains one of our favorite campgrounds in the entire country. We made an easy day trip up to Yellowstone. Let me be clear, this was not our primary visit to Yellowstone, but just to say we did make a day visit there from Colter Bay.
- GopherBrokeExplorerWe spent 2 weeks at Gros Ventre Campground, but its a simple boondocking campground and while there we had 4 bull moose bed down about 100 yards from our campsite for two nights and a few days later a cow moose with twins was less than 50 yards from our site. We did stay at the Head Waters CG,reserve and even with the America the Beautiful pass its expensive. Coulter Bay was booked up, and they were doing some electrical work and had a section close last Sept. If one of you is over 62 you can get the ATB pass at any NP entrance and it will save you a ton of money. Also if you choose one of the full hookup CG make advanced reservations, cause they have the only game in town!
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIColter Bay Village is the best one for touring Grand Teton Nat'l Park.
Others are: Grand Teton Park RV in Moran - not good reviews
...and Headwaters (formerly Flagg Ranch) - which used to get bad reviews because of electric problems and muddy sites.
Here's a link to the ones in Jackson itself and they're not in a nice Teton setting as Colter Bay Village. They're parking lots.
Jackson, WY RV PARK REVIEWS
Note that any of the above full hookup parks are extremely expensive. Do you really need hookups?
With our 40' motorhome we always stay in Gros Ventre Campground (our favorite) in the park or at Colter Bay Campground in the park and right next door to Colter Bay Village RV Park. Both have 300 attractive sites and no reservations. We've never had a problem getting a site in those two. They both have dump stations.
Have a good trip!
