Last year we stayed at Bridge RV Park in White Salmon, WA, just across the river from Hood River, OR. It was positioned nicely for day tours along the river. There is a train track running between it and the river but the trains don't blow their whistles here and you really don't notice them. You can see what we did (and a couple of pictures of the RV park) at our blog entry for that stop. We drove I-84 from Portland to Hood River and crossed the Columbia on a very narrow bridge there to get to White Salmon. When leaving we drove 14 (there are a couple of tunnels that we got through easily) to where we took US 197 south to Redmond, OR.
