Coolest Spot In Texas

My solar is up and running and we just returned home from San Miguel de Allende. In SMA it is 82F high and here in Monterrey, Mx today it was 114F. I'm melting.

I will be working in Texas in October but would like to head to Texas the end of August. Any ideas on the coolest spot?

I know of Guadalupe Natl Park in West Texas. Any other cool climes in Texas this time of year?

Thanks in advance.

  • The panhandle.
Down here we are on day 13 of over 100 degrees, around 5 broken high temp records, and 22 days of 100+ temps for the year. And we are just starting on the hot times of the year.
  • Texas has a lot of great things to offer, but August weather is not one of them. I would be seriously thinking about northern New Mexico or Colorado. You will see plenty of Texas license plates in both of those locations.
  • Seems from Monterrey, one could find some cool temps along the Gulf Coast (Coastal Bend of Texas) in End of August/September.

South Padre Island (83°F now & high of 89°F today) would be closest, I assume. Then up to Corpus Christi area, Padre Island Nat'l Seashore (82°F/93°F) and/or Mustang Island State Park (82F/91°F). The Rockport (about the same 83°F & 91°F) area seems to be a nice site as well.

Wow! 114 F in Monterrey, always thought Monterrey was up in the mountains.

Not too far from Guadalupe Mountains Nat'l Park (66°F/82°F & low to be 61°F), one can often find some very cool & often cold tempts in the Lincoln Nat'l Forest in the Cloudcroft Area (53°F/72°F today) of New Mexico. We did in late August & Early Sept. 2011.

Turns out it wasn't too shabby temperature wise at Guadalupe Mountains Nat'l Park (66°F/82°F & low to be 61°F) today.

Big Bend Nat'l Park wouldn't have been to bad today either, right now 85°F, but did get up to 100°F but will get down to 74°F tonight. Cool highs the rest of the 10 day period. But not Cloudcroft Cool even with it being a little higher high next 10 days.

Davis Mountains State Park was nice today with 65°F/82°F temps. But will be a little warmer the rest of the 10 day period.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park & Caprock Canyons State Park might have good weather in September time frame as well. Both aren't too bad temp-wise next 10 days. Both in the Panhandle of West Texas.
  • Guadalupe Nat'l Park is definitely not cool - weatherwise, unless you sit on top of the mountain. :) Try for the Davis Mtn. area or the Chisos in Big Bend. Those are your only choices. Good luck!
  • Davis Mountains State Park is about the coolest place you'll find in TX in Aug.
  • A cool spot in Texas in Aug.???????? Bah ha ha ha ha:B,,, bah ha ha ha :B..... You must be from New York City lol lol lol
