Coolest thing ever!

So my brother just bought a 2017 Lance 2285 travel trailer. He was discussing the new weight distributing hitch he would need. His old one is a weld together head/shank with 550 bars......bars to light and hitch head, wrong ball height. We were discussing the new integrated sway type units like Equalizer, Blue-OX, etc. This morning he went to the dump, pull next to a guy dumping his junk and there was a Draw-Tite, W.D. 1000# set up complete with bolt together head and friction sway bar..........Asked the guy if he was tossing it......guy said, "not if you want it". Only thing not there is the snap ups! So, now he doesn't need to figure out what W.D. hitch he's gonna buy! God is good!

I have 2 extra snap ups for the chain. If you want them pay postage.

My bro ordered up some Curt snap ups. Thanks for the offer though!

  • Travel trailers I've hauled have all been larger 28'-32'. Present trailer is 8K lbs and I've made more than one trip through Texas, Az NM, Ok, Co and Wy. so I do know about windy conditions. But I also have always used a truck that's not at it's max load. Current truck is a CC dually
  • Without a doubt I agree wholeheartedly with the last statement in the OP. Well, nothing beats free as it pertains to cash out of pocket. Since you both have experience with these type of hitches, and feel it is a good fit for the smaller Lance TT, all the better. Looking online similar new hitches were under $200, definitely a nice find for your brother.

Lance TTs are pretty pricey, personally I would be going with integrated sway control, but that's all we have experience with. We often travel by interstate and with the winds we experience in the four corner states where we do most of our RVing, we need sway control that could handle our larger TT. Hope the hitch works to his satisfaction, I'm know he will enjoy the solid build of his Lance.

Don't care much for those hitches personally, but hey, free is infinitely less expensive than not free. :)

    Well,
I've used the exact same set up on my rig. I purchased it new in 2005 and while i'ts "low rent" compared to the sway integrated units I mentioned earlier, it levels the truck, is quiet and goes down the road with zero sway. Actually, he and I have never towed with anything other than this type setup, so for him it's literally "free money"!

I've been using that type of hitch since the late 70's. I couldn't begin to guess how many miles I've pulled without any problems. I do know that just in the last 5 yrs mileage would exceed 45K
