We spent the last week at Davis Mountain State Park.
Just left today,
Went there to escape the 103 in Dallas.
The weather was very, very nice.
Sat outside with a small breeze during the daytime.
I recommend it if you are looking for a cooler climate.
And if you look on rvparkreviews.com you'll find people love the place.

Yes, sorry..your trailer is probably too long for Chisos.

I really think you'd like Davis Mountain State Park. It's at an elevation of 5050' whereas Chisos is 5400' EL. There would be more to do in the immediate area of Davis rather than Guadalupe Nat'l Park.

However, Dog Canyon campground in Guadalupe is at 6300' EL but is very remote. It's about 70 mi from Carlsbad, New Mexico and accessed via NM137. There are only 4 RV sites there and no dump station. Pine Spring campground in Guadalupe in Texas has about 20 sites and is basically a paved parking lot but it has scenic surroundings. It's at 5800' EL. No dump station there either.

That's near the limit. There are some real sharp bends in the road that will make it "fun" to get in and out, plus the steep grades in places. The real problem is there aren't any real level sites and the new Ranger there has decided that he wants to discourage RVs and encourage tent campers, so most of the good old spots have been converted to no-generator sites. The other thing they did was to reverse all the traffic so it's impossible to get to the dump station without violating the traffic flow. I've been going there for a number of years in my Class B (21") and the last two I've towed my Jeep Wrangler in and out with it. But don't think I'll do it again. I'll stay at the Village this Christmas.

Take a look at this monthly average chart for Fort Davis, TX. September looks pretty good. A decent drive from there to Balmorhea State Park will give you beautiful cool, clear waters to swim. You could also do a long day trip to Big Bend and check out Chisos Mtn. campground.

Well, what a bummer. I was hoping to find some refuge. South Padre is very close, about 3.5 hours. I just hate spending time inside the rv with a noisy air conditioner. Next week is my birthday and I wanted to go somewhere cool since we haven't had the rv out for awhile.

Someone said they thought Monterrey is in the mountains, it is, but in between at 1500ft. We may be cooling down to 91F next week. I wish we could have stayed in San Miguel de Allende until the end of the month but a three-day job brought us back. Too bad.

We have a pool here at home but the water is warm. One of the wells is already dry and we are hoping the other holds out until more rains come.

Thanks for all your comments. I would still like to try Davis Mountains or Guadalupe Natl Park.
