corp of engineers parks book

Finding a COE park on-line is not the easiest thing, or at least I haven't found it. What is the best book available? Amazon has the "Camping with the COE" book by Wright. Other on-line stores have others. Any suggestions?

  • I use the Camping with the COE. If anyone here mentions one of the campgrounds I put a note in if I feel the information will help me.
  • I use the online source, US Campgrounds website to provide me with locations and access to a very wide variety of public parks, including C.O.E.. Below the map, take note of the Map Legend.
  • Wright's "Camping with the COE" is OK and probably the best available. I use Recreation.gov for the ones that take reservations.
  • "Camping with the Corps" is probably the best. We have worn out two, gave away the first one.
  • I use another book by Don Wright, called "guide to free and low cost camping" and it includes COE parks along with most OTHER federal campgrounds (NFS, BLM, NPS, TVA etc.) It also includes state and municipal, county campgrounds and even a FEW private campgrounds. It includes all that meet the criteria of being either free or under $12.00 a night. Two volumes (one for east of the MIssissippi and one for West of the Mississippi,) include thousands of listings.

You can also pick up a publication (large oversized poster) that indicates the COE parks in a given district. These are available at many project offices for COE facilities. SOME will have more than just their own district included and others will handle only the poster that is for their own district.
  • I use "Camping with the COE" book by Wright, But I only look for the COE campground in a given location. I then go on-line for more details because I normally make reservations.
