Country Campground, Detroit Lakes, Minnisota
Country Campground, Detroit Lakes, Minnisota ratings.
I disagree with the rating this campground received. I am aware that they passed the checklist and all campgrounds have their rules but I think something was overlooked in the rating criteria. We were supposed to stay a week but only stayed for 2 days and left the 3rd day. It is right next door to a turkey farm. I am a country girl and usually farms don't bother me. It was very hot which did not help I guess but it stank so bad that we could not sit outside and had to have the air going 24/7 as we could not open the windows. It was making us gag it was so bad. Not the fault of the campground but unfortunately I would not go there again. Also we had +40 degree weather. I asked if we could have a small kids pool with a little water in it for the kids and they said no way. They had a small, and I mean small cement area that a tiny picnic table was on and asked if we could put it on that and they said no to that as well. Water availability was not the issue. They would not bend even though the kids were very overheated. Ended up cooling them down in the shower which probably used more than the pool in the end. Did not want to take them to the beach because of fear of swimmers itch as the water was full of large snails and very algae covered. Weeds everywhere.
I do not recommend this campground as they would not work with us in their "rules" and the poor quality of the beach. This was during the 1st week of Sept. 2013 I seriously think their ratings should be re-evaluated, especially during the hotter weather.
