We were there last September and stayed at Diamond Lake Campground (Forest Service). It is right on the lake. We had no problem at all with mosquitos. Must have been a good year, I guess.
Be sure you fill up with fuel before getting there, though. The one and only station at Diamond Lake is about a dollar a gallon more than the surrounding areas.
There was a lot of road construction going on between the north entrance and the visitor center at Crater Lake.
