Crook County RV Park, Prineville, Oregon - good one?

Planning a trip in middle of September to John Day Fossil Beds and looking at mileages from Bend/Redmond, and wondering how many here have stayed at Crook County RV Park in Prineville, Oregon.

Rigs - 3/4 ton Suburban pulling a 32 ft. travel trailer

Thanx for listening and any help would be appreciated.
  • Stayed there 2 years ago. Nice enough park. sites are narrow, our 38' 5er wheels are wider than the pad. Just spent a couple nights and it was fine for that.

Thats a long way from the fossle beds. Consider staying at Clyde Holiday State park instead. At least thats a bit closer to the digging.

We will be going South to Crater from Bend, therefore, not sure that we want to go that far East and then have to come back to Bend.

And only planning to visit the Paleo Center at (is it?)Sheep Rock for the day or two, depending on when we arrive the previous day.

Was just wondering about the place in Prineville.

Our Alpenlite doesn't have the clearance needed to do boon-docking, but the one we will be taking next June will have plenty of clearance for that.
  • I drove through that Park when in the area last year...looks decent.

    If you like drycamping:
There are some beautiful spots in campgrounds up along the Crooked River just out of Prineville. One of them has water- no other amenities but picnic tables, fire rings, latrines. Ten bucks a night, I think. But right on the river, and most will accommodate your rig.

Thank you, but when did you stay there ?

    Five or so years.
  • We stayed there last September and probably will again this fall. A completely adequate place to stay.
