- lfloomExplorerI was lucky enough to get a couple of nights from a cancellation. It is a lovely place, with a great trail that goes thought the CG and out along the edge - amazing views.
I have stayed at CGs that truck in water and it is usually pit toilets and water from a large tank (and slow spigot). They have a great new bathroom facility, with flush toilets, running water, etc. I think it must have opened just before we got there - in April. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIDead Horse Point is a favorite of ours whenever in the area. The views are awesome!

If you don't mind dry camping there's Horsethieft Campground operated by the BLM. Plenlty of room for you rig and not many miles from Dead Horse and Canyonlands NP.
We loved Horsethief BLM. Lots of room with up-to-date blacktop roads, dark sky and when we were there very few people.
At the junction of US-191 and UT-128 about a mile on 128 is a spring on the side of the road. A number of people get water there. I do not remember if there is a "connection" for a hose or not (we only stopped to taste the water). UT-128 is a very scenic drive.
On UT-128 are a number of BLM campgrounds for example
Goose Island Campground is located 1.4 miles from Highway 191 on Highway 128. The campsites offer spectacular views of the Colorado River and massive red rock cliffs of Arches National Park. Both RV and tent camping are available including 3 walk-in tent-only sites. This campground is popular due to its proximity to town, its shade during the summer, and the beautiful scenery. Campsites are available on a first-come, first served basis. - Drew_KExplorerWe stayed at Dead Horse in June in our TT. Awesome park and I highly recommend it. Only trick is that you need to fill up your water tank before you get there.
- VeebyesExplorer IIDHPSP is our hands down favorite in the area. A commercial park in Moab is like a commercial park anywhere else. Traffic noise, sites close together, pool, no firerings, small tables if any, big money. Fine for some.
The nights at DHPSP are spectacular. Miles from any light source & high on the mesa the air is as clear as can be & you feel like you can almost touch the stars. No noise except maybe distant wildlife. - 4runnerguyExplorerSeveral have mentioned Horsethief CG in their posts. Just be aware that Horsethief, like all the BLM CG's, is first come, first served. If you arrive early in the week by noon, you can generally find a spot somewhere among them (depending on your size). By early afternoon on Thursday, it gets pretty tough to find a spot, esp. the few larger ones. Without reservations, weekends in the Moab area are dicey.
- NCWriterExplorerWe stayed there in 2011 and enjoyed it (full name is Dead Horse Point SP). The overlook of the bend in the Colorado River is spectacular, and a lot of campers go back to the point for sunset there.
You can walk from the campground to a small visitor center.
Some sites are not level, but the staff members when we were there were very willing to offer another option for a switch. - If you don't mind dry camping there's Horsethieft Campground operated by the BLM. Plenlty of room for you rig and not many miles from Dead Horse and Canyonlands NP.
- nazpazExplorerWe loved Dead Horse State Park when we were there a few months ago. The advice on filling up with water in Moab is right on. However, I will mention that there's a public sink outside by the bathrooms in the campground that does have drinking water. You can't fill your camper there, but if you have water containers you can fill them for drinking water
We also stayed at Horsethief Campground, BLM which is quite near the state park (and both are near Canyonlands National park). This is a large dry, no hookup campground. It was a good spot for a few nights for us.
If you want to see our photos of these campgrounds, we did reviews of both campgrounds in this section: http://pastorscott.com/travel/tag/utah/ We really liked the Moab area. - tsetsafExplorer IIIThere are actually a lot of great public campgrounds near Moab and this is one of the great ones. You can see the various sites here Dead Horse SP Great mountain biking up there.
