For the Upstate New York trip: Close as you are, you have probably visited Montecello in Charlottesville, VA, but for us that would be a stop. Then you could spend a few days in the Amish area around Lancaster, PA before going on up to Cooperstown, NY and then to wherever you wanted to go in the Adarondicks.
We stayed at Misty Mountain RV near Charlottesville; in Beacon Hill RV in Intercouse, PA, in Beaver Valley RV at Cooperstown. We also stayed in Arrowhead RV and Marine at Glenville, NY (near Schenectady, NY.)-- All places we would go back to if we were in those areas again.
I'm sure you've been to Williamsburg, VA, but if not that could be another stop.
I'll give some thought to a longer trip West.
