When I go to Deep Creek lake I stay at Deep Creek Lake State park which is located right on the lake. Great state park a little tight getting back to it but well worth it.
Honestly this is one of those times where being on the lake takes precedence over full hook ups.
I have never stayed at Double G but I have driven thru. It is located right on 219 close to the highway. Seemed like an OK place but sites were a bit tight with not a lot of trees. I do not believe there is a pool. The park has a fair amount of seasonals sites.
As I drove past Double G, I never considered staying there vs. the state park.
If full hook ups are a must GG will serve as a decent base camp, however you will have to drive to the lake and other attractions. There is not a lot of public access to the lake. Deep Creek State park provides the best public access.
Swallow Falls is a decent state park as well but it is a bit more remote and more rustic.........which is not necessarily a bad thing.
As far as the alcohol goes, the policy is not enforced unless you break the rules. The No alcohol policy is an easy way to evict any rowdy campers. Behave and the policy will not be enforced.
Deep Creek is certainly one of those areas where one can limit/penalise themselves by requiring full hook ups.
