Delaware Coast camping

We have to be out near the Philadelphia region for a few weeks in July. We've narrowed the first part to a couple of campgrounds in the Hershey/Lancaster area. After there, the DW would like to check out the Delaware coast. The plan is to be there for about a week. Most of the time would be spent taking day trips away from the CG, but at least one weekend would be joined by our daughter and 3 yr. old grandaughter. And there are the two dogs we'll have with...

We're looking at either Delaware Seashore S.P, or Massey's Landing. We'd like to have moderate path/trail access for longer-than-around-the-campground dog walks. Both have access to dog friendly beach areas. Some rvparkreviews.com of the S.P north camping area make it seem like just a sandy parking lot. But Massey's isn't afraid to charge premium rates, and may be promising more than they deliver.

Any opinions, or alternative places we should check out?
  • If you're eligible to use military campgrounds, we absolutely love the FamCamp at the Bethany Beach Training Site (Delaware Army National Guard). It's about a block and a half from the beach and the city shuttles (trolly-like buses at 25 cents a ride) stop there every 20 minutes or so. You can get all over town, to the beach and boardwalk, and do all kinds of fun stuff. The crabbing on the ICW a few steps from the campsites is good, too.

  • Just stayed at Massey's this past weekend. The park is brand new and has some really nice features. All the facilities were spotless and the park has a nice layout in a great location. Very close to Rehobeth Delaware and Ocean City Maryland is not too far to the south.
  • We love Seashore State Park. That being said, it is an asphalt pad surrounded by a little grass and sand. There are mostly full hookups. No shade at all. Great sunsets. If you are going to reserve, I would do so now as it is very popular.

My daughter and SIL spent Easter weekend at Massey's Landing and were very pleased with it.

    Enjoy your stay!
