Destin Fl. Attractions

We will be at Henderson Beach State Park for 14 days in April and was looking for advice on things to do within 50 miles or so. This is our 4th yr and we have been to Eden Gardens, Pensacola navel Etc. For example, are the Dolphin excursions worth it, the aquarium west of Destin. Also best place for fresh seafood. We are 73 yrs old and able to get around pretty good, (as my Dr. said, for our age). Thanks for any help. By the way, Thinking about changing doctors.

We head down that way some ourselves but usually don't get very far away from Pensacola Beach Area and will run the gulf side of the road between Pensacola Beach and Navarre Beach.

Love camping on the gulf and listening to the water sounds hitting the beach all night long. You never know what is going to be washed up haha...

Only times I have been to Destin was being involved with the Space Surveillance System and Eglin AFB (Niceville area)... The local guys we know from there seem to have fun times all around the area...

  • Few years ago, we stayed at St. Andrews State Park at Panama City (Lower Grand Lagoon) in March. While there, we traveled around quite a bit and enjoyed the sites. We drove the beach front road, all the way from St. Andrews to Pensacola. We stopped at looked over Henderson State Park, Grayton Beach State Park, Destin, Laguna Beach, and every place that looks interesting along Beach Front Road and then skirting as close to the Gulf as possible all the way to Pensacola. We did a lot of site seeing.

Of course, we were there during one week of Spring Break time. And just watching the insane "kids" at Panama City Beach was entertaining all by itself!

Later, we went to Panama City Beach and walked the board walk, and literally, "ate" our way through town. The popcorn shop was fabulous, as was some little outside restaurant we had a fantastic time at. Lots of places to eat, things to see, and MONEY to spend at Panama City Beach. Lots of walking, but just "right" for a couple of old-folks.

And OH! .... the Harley Davidson Motorcycle shop at Panama City Beach is a pretty cool experience too!
  • Air Force Armament Museum - Elgin AFB Ft. Walton Beach.
    Boogies Glass Bottom Boat Ride.
Rent a Pontoon Boat in Destin Harbor.

Breakfast - The Donut Hole (be prepared for a long wait).
Lunch - The Back Porch, Dewey Destin's
    Pizza - Jordano's (Sandestin).
Dinner - Stinky's Fish Camp (Best Seafood, on 30A Santa Rosa Beach), Louisiana Lagniappe (Destin Harbor Harbor pretty good too).
  • The mini "Sea World" just west of Destin is pretty cool. One day a week admission is $5 for seniors over 62. Check but I think it's Wednesdays. Nice area, but the new bridge from Niceville to Destin is a serious rip off.
  • If you are baseball fans, head over to Pensacola and check out the Cincinnati Reds double-A team, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Cheap admission ($6 general admission, I believe?) at a great baseball park. We had a blast there.

Ditto on all of the restaurants listed above, and if you go to Panama City, you have to go to Captain Andersons for great seafood.
  • Thanks to all. Sounds like most of you enjoy what we do. I thought maybe there would be something we had missed. Even with this being our 4th year we have never done a dolphin cruise or a glass bottom boat. Any thoughts on one or both of these. Hoping the flowers are in still in bloom at Eden Gardens. We always combine that with Do-Nut Hole East for a nice day. Thanks again.

Still young folks, just put your swimsuits on and enjoy the Beach.

Have a small cooler with a couple adult beverages and enjoy the Sunset.

IMHO Destin is a place to just "relax and enjoy"

    Best of Luck,
