Your kids will love it. As noted, take in the Utah Field House in Vernal. In their outdoor courtyard they have full sized replicas of dinosaurs with their "skin" on (as opposed to the bones at the NM). We've stayed at Green River CG in the park. No hookups, but it is right on the river. Select a site with good shade trees if you'll be there in the summer. The hike to the Josie Morris cabin and up the canyons above are a great way for the kids to burn off energy. Pretty shaded along much of the trail. Another camping option is Steinaker Lake SP seven miles north of Vernal. While sites 1-8 are FHU, we found sites 16, 18, 20, and 22 have the best shade and views of the lake, but just electricity but that's enough to run the A/C during the day. (16 is our favorite).
We've never rafted there, but when we were there this spring (April), the people next campsite over took a day raft trip. We'd had a wet winter and the runoff was going full on. The "day" trip took all of two hours float time because the river was really fast. There is a vistors center in Jensen where you turn off US 40 to head to the NM Dinosaur Quarry that has info on rafting options and other things to do.
The lava tubes at Craters of the Moon are something your kids will also enjoy. Get some cheapo LED headlamps before the trip. The best way to describe the CG is stark, but there are few options in the immediate area.
