- AllworthExplorer IIWe drive it 4 or 5 times a year and always use 295-East (when the trailer is on).
295-West is not worth the trouble. Too long. Too much traffic.
Non-rush hour I'll go through town if running solo. esyers wrote:
Pecan Park and Flamingo Lake are my choices there.
I usually go right on through Jacksonville, I just make sure I"m not there during rush hour.
X2---That's part of our normal southern routine.. Pecan Park overnight and right through the middle of Jax the next day... just be mindful of your time of day to avoid delays from rush
hour..- monkey44Nomad II

Since I discovered I-295 EAST (Old 9A) I use it in the RV. Its only 4 miles longer less traffic, less stressful , more scenic (view from the big bridge)
Yes, exactly what I'm talking about -- old 9A now I-295 on the east side, (west side is much longer and more traffic) and there is much less traffic on east unless right at work-rush times. - bobsinnExplorerSince I discovered I-295 EAST (Old 9A) I use it in the RV. After making the trip yearly over the last 30 years, I go straight through on 95. Going through JAX used to be bad and even included tolls.
The bypass is about 10 miles longer and traffic can be just as bad or worse on the bypass.
I agree-- I had always used the bypass until this past year and we shot right thru Jax on 95 without any issues.
For a CG, look at North Beach outside of St Augustine. - beemerphile1ExplorerAfter making the trip yearly over the last 30 years, I go straight through on 95. Going through JAX used to be bad and even included tolls.

We did this just 3 weeks ago at Jacksonville. Grrrr. Lots of road construction, stop and go, which wasn't fun in Phaeton Place. And it was a Sunday! Take the bypass this time. Once the construction is over, you can sail through, but it was a mess. On our way out of Florida, we took the bypass around to the west and it was easy peasy.
Dale - The_Painting_TeExplorerWhat Monkey44 said! Camp on!
- monkey44Nomad IIHead east on I-295 -- save going thru town which is busy sometimes, but also some odd interchanges and crossovers ... I-295 is not much longer, and a lot easier and straight drive. Pick up I-95 again south of the city and clear sailing from then on.
IF you want a nice campground just before Jacksonville, right outside Kingsland, GA just before you cross the line into Florida, Crooked River State Park -- with W/E sites. Nice park ...
There's also a very large visitors center just past the Florida line too, for a break if you need it. The 1-295 exit is right past the airport turnoff, and it exits to the right BEFORE the overpass then curves up and over I-95 and heads east, then south -- odd looking exit, so take care and don't miss it.
If you take I-295 west direction, it's longer and much busier -- but either one works. - mgirardoExplorerJust make sure you aren't going through Jacksonville during rush hour and stay on 95. Even during rush hour, Jacksonville traffic isn't too bad on 95.
We've only ever camped at Hannah Park in Jacksonville. It's a nice park, but out of the way when heading to Disney.
