Perhaps one reason why someone will camp right next door to some else, way out in the middle of nowhere, is because, there's always the question, "can we actually park here? If someone else is parked here, it must be OK then." So they camp near someone else, rather than finding another isolated spot all to themselves. I think this is what happens at WallMart parking lots. Someone picks the spot at WallMart, so everyone else figures ... HEY! THATS the spot for RV's. We'll go over there too!
