Distant Drums RV park, Camp Verde, AZ?

It's been quite a few years since we were here last. We were in one of their pull thru's and thought them odd. The front section was sloped considerably. While the trailer sat on level ground it was difficult to level because the front part dropped off requiring at least a foot of blocks. Hitching and unhitching was slightly hampered because of the angle of the tow vehicle.

Has anyone been there recently and knows if the pull thru's are still the same way or have there been changes? Otherwise this park is very nice.
  • We were there a couple weeks ago and things looked pretty much the same as they did when we were there for years ago. Lengthened some of the original drive in motor home spots and added some more on the back edge, but the rest looked as I remember it.
  • We left there yesterday. The sites looked the same as they did when we visited a few years ago. This time we stayed in a back in site. One of the nicest RV parks we have stayed at.
  • Have stayed there many times - always pull thru sites. They are a little tight but we are only there for a day to maybe 4 days. Never had any issues with level pads. Great park. Will be staying with them in Aug as we move on thru on a trip.

Do you by chance remember which spots you stayed in? On their website is a map which shows only 10 pull thru spots. I know many of them had steep slopes at one end where you'd park your tow vehicle. Some larger RV's would hang over this area requiring considerable blocking to get level, some with front wheels off the ground. I don't remember which spots these were and am planning a trip next week. Any help in picking a spot would be appreciated!
  • I can't honestly help you as I don't recall having any leveling issues. We have stayed usually down around the 76-78 area - down away from the main building. But have stayed up nearer the other end as well.

I just don't recall any issues in that regard. But, on the other hand, if the site slopes a little front to back we just take care of it with the landing gear on the 5er.

FWIW - their laundry is the best of all the about 165 rv parks we have stayed in. Which is one of the reasons we stop there for at least a day when coming home from that direction.
  • Another alternative is Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood. We love that area.
  • We were there in January. The spot we like was one of many with a slope problem. It and many of the other problem sites had been redone with new or partial new slabs. I had my front two wheels off the ground two years ago. This year they were both on the ground. There was a number of site shut off while they were excavating etc. Thinks the worst of them are ok now. Maybe somebody read RV park reviews including my post. Will go back there on our way south this year.
