For certainty, you might go East of the Cascades...lots of STATE land over there- always open, free boondocking, and fall colors all the way.
The Sinlahekin Valley is especially beautiful this time of year.

WOW, that is so cool. We spent a couple days at Kettle Falls a couple of years ago and loved it, but we only have a couple of days. I am going to add this to my bucket list though as I didn't even know it was there. Thanks so much
