The fact is that bringing dogs into a National Park puts a lot of limits on what you can do while you're there.
When I'm in a National Park I spend a lot of time well away from the road - hiking, fishing, wildlife watching, boating, taking a horseback ride, geyser gazing, etc. I couldn't do these things if I had my dogs along.
On the other hand, if what you want to do is auto tour and sight-see near the roads, having a dog along is not going to be a big handicap.
