Dry camping in Los Angeles

Since school has started, you might try Dockweiler State Beach in Playa Del Ray. Space may be available if you are looking at a weekday. Los Angeles is NOT a very RV friendly town. I can't think of a single place near the center of town where you can camp or dry camp. This topic has been brought up many times be people who wish to camp near one of the major hospitals during a family admission. Not far from the LA central area is Valencia, with Castaic RV park and Travel Village RV park (near Magic Mountain), both are very nice. It would be at least at 45 minute drive to downtown, during rush hour it will take 2 hours (or more). But if you plan your day to start after 10AM the drive is ok.

Suggest you use an RV Park and rent a car.

I would not leave my rig unoccupied for even 15 minutes anywhere near downtown, let alone all day. The professional auto strippers would leave you with nothing but an empty shell (maybe just a steel frame) in seconds.

Go to a regular RV park and day trip in.

You could stealth camp but there is no accepted safe designated area.
You must pay in Los Angeles.

Dockweiler is actually pretty good.

I wouldn't take a strangers rv downtown LA and try to camp let alone my own. You could stay here Simi Valley and ride the metro-link into LA.

If you can get a spot, Dockweiler is fine since it is close to the freeways. But, it's right under the departure end of LAX until midnight and the arrival end until 0630. The arrivals are mostly heavy freighters, but they are quieter these days.;) This is as close to downtown LA as I would want to get. (p.s.: I just moved from there after 35 years. Not quite sure if I'm far enough away, yet. :))

Anywhere in or around downtown Los Angeles is not the same at night as it is during the day, especially the museum area. That's just a really bad plan

With the horrible drought we are enduring "dry camping" is about all there is :-) We need rain!
