We did a wonderful trip from VA up to Maine a few years ago. We live in the western part of the state, almost into KY, so we drove to Luray and spent a few days there, then on up to DC for a few days of monuments and Smithsonian; then we headed for Baltimore and did a full day there, then on to Hershey, PA. We took in Hershey Park and then headed on north to Philadelphia since I had never seen the Liberty Bell or Constitution Hall. We headed on north, up I-84 and then cut across into Mass and headed on up to Maine. We did several stops in Maine in Old Orchard Beach, Portland then Mt. Desert Island and Acadia NP. We stayed about 5 days there and I could have stayed more. We then headed back south and took a few days with stops in Mystic and Salem. Celebrated the 4th of July with the Boston Pops on the Esplanade (it was fabulous). We stopped in NYC and stayed at Liberty Harbor for 5 days and did the NYC thing. (I hated it, but the rest of the family enjoyed it tremendously). We then headed back south and took in the DELMARVA for about a week. We had family that lived there for years, so we had visited a lot. It's a fabulous place. Headed on down and took the CBBT across to Va Beach and the headed back home. It was a long trip, but a good trip and we enjoyed all of it except for the drive back home. It just took too long and we were tired.
